Small Cap Equity

Portfolio Manager: Jason Votruba, CFA- Scout Investments, Inc. (Bio)
Quarterly Fact Sheet (.pdf)

UMB’s Small Cap Equity Strategy employs a bottom-up methodology to identify growth companies that also produce high levels of cash flow and earnings relative to their peers. This bottom-up analysis is complemented by technical market analysis that focuses on price levels of individual issues and the market as a whole. The strategy seeks to meet or exceed the return of its benchmark, the Russell 2000 Index.

This strategy seeks fundamentally superior companies that possess strong balance sheets, employ conservative accounting principles, generate net cash flow, and can adequately service their debt. Generally, the strategy favors companies with a debt-to-total-capital ratio of 33 percent or less. UMB Asset Management seeks small capitalization issues with significant liquidity, as evidenced by the dollar value of a stock’s float. Sector and industry weights are not the primary consideration, but sector and industry exposure are monitored to prevent significant overweighting.
