Benefits of Your Chip Card:
Chip cards contain a computer chip which securely stores the card data
that currently resides on the magnetic stripe. The computer chips
enables more secure processing by producing a one-time use code, known
as a cryptogram, for each transaction.
Chip card cryptograms are unique to each transaction, making
the card difficult to counterfeit. If your chip card is lost or stolen,
the chip card data cannot be used to create counterfeit cards. Even in
the event of theft, chip cardholders are still protected from fraudulent
purchases with Visa’s Zero Liability policy1
Accepted in the United States
Chip-enabled terminals will soon replace swipe terminals in the United
States. You may continue swiping your card when a chip-enabled terminal
is not available, and will be ready to go when one is.
Chip cards are accepted in over 130 countries; with approximately one
billion chip cards in circulation and 36.9 million chip-enabled
terminals worldwide. Keep in mind that certain unattended terminals,
such as public transportation kiosks, will not be able to accept your
new chip and signature card. Simply find an attendant and ask them to
