Not only does UMB strive to meet its sustainability goals by internal practices, but it realizes the importance of joining with local community organizations and programs to support our efforts and make a difference.
Throughout our various locations, UMB teams dedicate their time to keeping their communities green. In the past, UMB associates have volunteered for programs through Bridging the Gap and Missouri Adopt-a-Highway. In addition, we encourage our employees to volunteer within our communities by offering them paid “volunteer time off”.
At UMB, we believe in forming relationships with companies that share our values and that can help us to obtain our environmental goals.
Ripple Glass Recycling
UMB is proud to be a partner in the Ripple Glass company, the first glass recycling program in the Kansas City region. Since its founding in 2009, Ripple Glass has expanded its convenient glass recycling program outside the Kansas City region to Jefferson City and will soon expand to Branson, Mo.
Kansas City Chamber Climate Protection
UMB became a founding partner of the Kansas City Chamber Climate Protection Agreement in November 2007. This Partnership encourages Kansas City businesses to assess the impacts from their organization on the climate and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By joining, UMB agreed to examine its carbon footprint and explore ways to reduce emissions. We completed our first carbon calculator in August 2008 and have since made it an annual trend to complete one. By doing this, we are able to assess our energy usage in our facilities.
KC Power and LightOur partnership with KC P&L allows us to use our energy efficiently and reduce our usage whenever we can. One way that we do this is by participating in the KC P&L MPower program, which encourages companies to control their electricity demands during peak summer months.
UMB strives to be involved in green causes within our communities by sponsoring programs such as St. Louis Heroes of the Planet Awards that recognizes businesses for their sustainability practices and being a title sponsor of the Denver Botanical Gardens. We are also sponsoring a local Kansas City project, the Grand Complete Street project, which focuses on the rejuvenation and “greening” of a street located in the heart of Downtown Kansas City.
